CANAL TOUR OF HOLLAND

These are pictures from canal tours of Holland. Enjoy the beautiful scenes. Below is a picture of a dredger at work. This is a motorized crane mounted on a barge. It is equipped with a drag bucket that is used to scoop material from the bottom of a body of water.

Dredging is an excavation activity carried out underwater in shallow seas or fresh water areas, with the purpose of gathering up bottom sediments and disposing of them at a different location. This helps to keep the waterways navigable.

It can also used be used to replenish sand on beaches where sand erosion has occurred or  as a technique for fishing for certain species of edible clams and crabs. This is known as fishing dredge.
